Residential curbside composting is available for any single or multi-family residence, including apartment buildings. We provide a 3-gallon green bucket with an easy open lid. Throughout the week, place any expired food, scraps, etc. into the bucket and reseal the lid. We pick up your bucket weekly (or biweekly if you prefer) on your designated pick up day. Place your bucket out by 8 am on your pick up day wherever is most convenient for you as long as we can still see it from the street (e.g. by the curb or garage, or on your front porch). For apartments, you can leave your bucket outside your door. We pick up your full bucket and replace it with a clean bucket and lid.
You can also request a larger 5-gallon bucket instead of the 3-gallon at no additional charge – just add a note in the comments when ordering. If you need to change your bucket size later, you can email us.
We weigh the contents of every bucket and will provide a quarterly report on how much waste you were able to reduce in the previous quarter and how you helped sustain local community gardens! You can even request finished compost back (25 pounds, quarterly) for your own gardening.
We also recycle glass! As an optional add-on, Food Cycle KC will collect your empty glass containers along with your curbside compost collection. We take all collected glass to Ripple Glass for recycling.
